LSS 2019 Review
I have shortened this review from nearly 6,500 words to a very simple overview, as it seems I had offended someone and they took it very seriously. After the last 3 and a half years, I really just want a simple life and do not wish to get in the middle of a fray.
I returned from the show this year with a much more positive outlook about the shows and our industry in general, it was great on several levels and whether a direct influence of the market, or an attempt by the show organisers, it managed to start breaking the usual mould and offered more than just inflatables, showing us all a way to diversify and food for thought when it comes to long term strategy.
The attendance was the best I have seen for at least 4 years at any UK leisure trade show and they did a fantastic job bringing a variety of exhibitors together; Including more first time exhibitors than I can ever recall, a clear sign that more than ever people are realising that the LSS is a branding exercise and something to aspire to as a manufacture.
For me personally this was a different type of show for many reasons, least not because I was able to take my family together for the first time. The question of whether you can bring kids to the shows and whether it’s boring for them or not was answered, for me at least. Not only did they enjoy themselves (and this is from children that are bouncy castle veterans and grew tired of them some time ago) and was genuinely excited, but it enriched the experience for me beyond just seeing them excited. I wouldn’t take them every single time, but it’s something I would do again.
The exhibitors all did a very good job of bringing their very best and I believe that everyone genuinely tried their hardest. Sometimes it can feel like their exhibit is rushed or not prepared enough, with little thought put into what to bring and show, but this year every single exhibitor made changes and improvements. I drove away with a lot to think about and was thoroughly impressed with what was what I believe was the very best leisure trade show I have ever attended.
I predict that within the two years we will see the further emergence of these games, some of them incorporating inflatables and some of them not. If we do not see a Virtual Reality stand at a leisure show in the next 2 years I will eat my hat.
I look forward to the next show and hope to see them grow in this positive way. It’s important that we all play our part and at least attend; We owe it to our industry to support the shows.
